The "Soul Patrol" refers to the 1989 Long Beach State women’s volleyball team, which made history by winning the NCAA Championship. The first team in NCAA history to have five black women as starter win a tittle. This remarkable feat earned recognition from the NAACP and the White House

The Soul Patrol featured a talented group of standout players, including:

Tara Cross

Co-Captain A key outside hitter known for her powerful kills and her stellar play.

Antoinette White

 A young outside hitter known for her powerful serves and exceptional play.

Trisonya Thompson

Co-Captain A standout middle blocker who was crucial to both the offense and defense.

Cheryl Stevens

A talented player instrumental in the team’s overall performance.

Vicki Pullins

A middle blocker who contributed to the team’s lineup.

Sheri Sanders:

An effective setter who orchestrated a highly sophisticated offensive.

Leadership

Under the guidance of Coach Brian Gimmillaro, the team developed a strong game plan that emphasized technical skill and mental resilience. Gimmillaro’s coaching philosophy fostered a supportive environment that propelled the players to success.
